7 Quick Takes Friday

1.
I've been busier than a one-armed paper hanger, at least that it what it's felt like. This week alone we had the neighbor kids over twice, Miss H & Mr. H here for a day & went on a field trip today. Next week is even more fun-filled. I'm helping out my next door neighbor by watching her two kids until school starts - just 8 hours a week. Of course, I still have Miss H & Mr. H but only one day a week. I'm also trying to get my house decluttered and school stuff ready. Yikes!

2.
We are spending time this week & next week going on some fun field trips. Today we went to a Pond Adventure at the natural history museum we like to go to. They are doing a "junior naturalist" program this week & next. Photos & write up in an upcoming post. Next week they are having a "Rocks Rock!" event we'll attend too. We're also heading the Maine State Museum on Tuesday for a field trip that looks like a lot of fun. We've been here quite often but never on a guided tour and never doing anything hands-on. This time we get to do both. It's a long day there (9am - 2pm) but I think it will be worth it.

3.
I started a new blog this week called Freedom Academy. That's the name of our homeschool. I'm using it to figure out how our homeschool year will look this year. It is complete with links. I'll be adding in what we do each day there as well. I'm calling it my "blog log."

4.
It has been raining more days than not this summer. In fact, in our paper today I read something that said our weather is becoming similar to what it was like during the "Little Ice Age." In essence, global warming was so last year & now we are entering a global cooling. I believe it considering it's been in the high 60s most of the summer with lots and lots of rain. Way too much rain.

My boys are loving Jelly Telly. Haven't seen it? You should check it out. It's from the guy who brought us VeggieTales. It's a 30 minute streaming video that changes each day. On the weekends they do a movie. They beg to watch it. It's fun.

6.
I'll be doing a photography study with my oldest (maybe my middle son) & at least one of my friend's son in the fall. I stumbled on a great post today over at Digital Photography School called "13 Lessons to Teach Your Child About Digital Photography." I'll use that as a base I think. I'm also looking at a photography unit study I saw at CBD. And if that article has your intrigued, check out the challenge they are issuing for you & your child. We'll be doing this as well - if it ever stops raining long enough.

I'm in the midst of reviewing books & curriculum. I'm having fun. I'm doing book blog tours for WaterBrook/Multnomah Press. My first review for them is coming up on Monday with a giveaway! I'm also part of the TOS Homeschool Crew this year. It is seriously feeling like Christmas here! So far I've reviewed The Old School House Planner, SpellQuizzer, and Maverick Books home to Hank the Cowdog. I have more sitting here to do as well. Just to let you all know, unless otherwise noted, I am not paid to do these reviews. I do get to keep the books/curriculum but that's it. All of the opinions given are mine - good or bad.

I pray you all have a wonderful week!

  3. I can't wait to hear more reviews. I'm heading over to check out the photography links. And, this cracked me up...

"In essence, global warming was so last year"

We've been saying that nearly everyday! My husband keeps saying, "Guess Al Gore works faster than we thought." lol Yeah... global warming...

Oh thank goodness! I'm not here all alone. Thanks for leaving me a comment. It helps that I'm not always talking to myself. Right? Hello?
