Calling all Cooks, Bakers, and Candlestick Makers?

Okay, so I really just need cooks and bakers (and is there really a difference?). The rest was just a fun rhyme. I wanted to let you know that Pillsbury has been hosting their "Bake-Off" contest now for well over 40 years. People from all over vie for the chance to be the next winner. When the contest started back in 1949 the winner walked away with a $50,000 prize. Today? It's 1 million dollars! The 45th Pillsbury Bake-Off Contest is now open!

Do you think you have what it takes? You can enter you recipe now by clicking HERE. Pillsbury has four categories open...
  • Breakfast and Brunch
  • Entertaining Appetizers
  • Dinner Made Easy (TM)
  • Sweet Treats
You only have until April 18th to enter online. The recipes will be judged on:
  • taste
  • appearance
  • creativity
  • consumer appeal
I'm not much of a creative cook, but this is slightly tempting to try for - after all it's a $1 million dollar grand prize! What do you think it takes to come up with that winning recipe? Luck? Amazing culinary skills?

Thankfully enough I just get to look the part! Pillsbury provided me (through MyBlogSpark) with a cute apron, a pen, and a copy of their cookbook - 100 Winning Recipes. Cool huh?

Every time I see that little dough guy I just want to poke his tummy to hear him giggle! Of course, I'm really hoping my family doesn't do the same to me while I'm wearing the apron!

Are you interested in winning your own prize pack? Simply leave a comment with your favorite recipe to make! Just leave the title of the recipe. However, I will give an extra entry if you send me the directions - either link it to your blog or leave it in the comments - for making the recipe.

  1. Humm...Which one to give you? How about an easy appetizer?

    Philly Cheese Ball
    1 8oz block Cream Cheese
1 8oz tub Cheddar Cheese, Cold pack Cheese Food
1 tsp Worcestershire Sauce (I go heavy on this)
    1/2 tsp lemon juice

Beat all together. Mold. Chill. Serve with crackers.

  2. Favorite recipe? Let's see...How about an appetizer or main dish: Crockpot Meatballs. (It isn't MY recipe though.)

1 bag pre-made meatballs (or a batch of homemade)
1 12 oz jar Chili Sauce
1 12 oz jar grape jelly

Put everything in the crockpot and cook on low to warm through (1-2 hours). We turn this into a meal by serving brown rice and steamed veggies with it.

(I wish I was home to share some of our other favorites!)

  3. We just had this for dinner last night.
    V8 Soup
    1 can V8
    1 bag frozen mixed veggies
    1 pkg beef ramen noodles
    1 lb ground beef
Cook and drain beef. Add V8, veggies and seasoning packet from noodles. Bring to a boil, then simmer 12 minutes. Add in noodles and simmer 3 minutes until tender. Enjoy.

  4. Gluten-free chicken nuggets is my current favorite recipe because the whole family likes it. I created this myself after experimenting with different seasonings.

    Ingredients:
boneless, skinless chicken breast cut into chunks
    gluten-free flour (I use Bob's Red Mill)
    Morton's Season-All salt (gluten-free according their website)
    paprika

Just coat the chicken chunks in a mixture of the flour, Season-All, and paprika. I don't have measurements since I just made it up and "eyeball" it to get the right amounts. I fry them in peanut oil in the Fry Daddy. Using peanut oil makes it a little healthier and less greasy. They are also good baked in the oven. I really think these taste better than the traditional flour recipe! It's a "painless" way to eat gluten-free.

Gluten-free pasta is another story. Blech!

Oh thank goodness! I'm not here all alone. Thanks for leaving me a comment. It helps that I'm not always talking to myself. Right? Hello?
