Pemaquid Point

My sister & I love taking photos. In fact a few years ago we decided to do something with all the photos we've done & started making greeting cards, magnets & calendars out of them. We've been going to some craft shows & have had minimal success at selling them but we are always on the look out for more shots.

This shot was taken on a road that loops around near the lighthouse. You can just see the lighthouse peeking over the trees in the background. The waves were great. There were actually some ducks in the water by the shore here, but I couldn't zoom in far enough to get a good shot.

We have a bunch of lighthouse photos as we both really enjoy them. I think it's in the blood as both my mom & her sister like them also. We have mostly summer shots since that is when we'll go out & drive around to get them. I should say that most of them are at least a 1-1/2 hour drive from us. We do not live on the coast - unfortunately!

My sister felt it would be a good idea to get some shots of a lighthouse in the winter to expand our portfolio. We should have headed down earlier in the season I think. It's been pretty warm here in Maine recently & a lot of the snow has melted. Well, at least down on the coast it has. We still have about 3-4 feet on the ground where I live, but I'm 2+ hours from the ocean.

Notice that there is NO snow on the ground here at all!!!!

We packed up all four boys (my three & her one) & headed south. We went to Pemaquid Point Lighthouse which is about 1-1/2 hours from my sister's place. The really nice thing about visiting in the winter - no one else was around! Well, I guess I can't say that as I think there were 3-4 other people there, but we had the place pretty much to ourselves.

Amazingly I had all four looking at me & smiling!
Usually they are all yelling "Cheese!" & looking anywhere but at the camera.

I took two rolls of film plus some digital prints. I'm not sure how many my sister took - both print & digital. It was beautiful. It was late afternoon & although it was overcast, you could see the sun peeking out at times. The tide was coming in & the waves were crashing so high. It was really beautiful.

The boys had a great time running around. My silly oldest boy wore his Crocs (well, they are really knock-offs). He loves them & wears them whenever he can slip them by me. While there wasn't a ton of snow on the ground, it was wet as it had been raining & the snow that was there was melting. As we were heading back to my sister's truck, he slipped on the ground. I honestly tried not to laugh too loudly as we had been telling them all not to run as it was slippery out. He ended up sitting on my jacket as I had on a fleece so was relatively warm enough. I also had my youngest in light colored pants. I have no clue what I was thinking of there! They were pretty muddy by the time we were done. He fell & slipped too but in the parking lot - which was dirt - which was wet & muddy.

My boys in front of the Keeper's House. Notice the Crocs on B & the
really, really light pants on J. Not a good Mommy moment.

Too cute for words.

We did have a good time. The boys behaved reasonably well on the drive there & back. I think I got some great photos on film. I'm still learning how to use my digital but I think those photos came out pretty good too.

  1. Very nice pictures! The other day my middle son went out in his sandals and I didn't realize until we were at the store. His excuse, he couldn't find one boot. Not fun when you don't notice until you're out that they haven't worn what you would have had them wear!

Oh thank goodness! I'm not here all alone. Thanks for leaving me a comment. It helps that I'm not always talking to myself. Right? Hello?
