It's been a crazy couple of months around here. Baseball was over at the very end of June - phew! If you'd like to see a really great photo of N getting his end of year trophy then click here to go to my photo blog. It's a pretty priceless photo - at least I think so.
The day after baseball ended the boys all had dentist appointments. I'm so thankful we've found a hygienist who has worked very well with B. He used to have a huge phobia about the dentist & just last year he finally allowed all of his teeth to be polished - this was huge for us. I can't begin to explain how HUGE that was for us!!! He has them polished & our hygienist lets him get up & rinse at the sink. He really does NOT like "Mr. Thirsty" & the water thingie. J even had his very first appointment & did awesome. Click here to see a photo of him in the chair. Way too cute.
Then we headed off to camp for four days. I posted all about that below along with tons of photos.
This week we started attending a Vacation Bible School at a local church - not the one we typically go to. It's from 6:30-8:30 at night which doesnt thrill me but it was one of the only ones I could find that worked for our schedule. It's a small church just starting. They actually have had a youth group come out from New York to run the VBS for them. There is a family connection with some church members. My favorite part is the adult class. It's on faith & how to know what you believe, how to know if you follow the way & have the faith. I'm really enjoying it. The only bad part - it's HOT!
It's been very hot & humid here this week. I'm so thankful my dear hubby got our large AC unit into the living room window when we got home from camp. It is enough to cool our living room & kitchen area. I also run our small one in our bedroom (off the kitchen) to help & hang blankets between the living room & hallway to block the heat & another between the kitchen & the addition. It makes it nice & cool in here even though the thermostat still reads 80 in my living room. Of course, I am sitting directly in front of the AC while I'm typing. ;-) I just do not like heat & can't handle it very hot & humid at all.
The only downside to this week - J has strep throat. ::sigh:: He started complaining that his tummy hurt yesterday. Of course, most mothers would just know this meant he had strep right?? (Can you hear my sarcasm?) I thought he just need to use the potty. He started feeling a bit hot though, but I was thinking he was overheated. I did give him some Tylenol last night & then still took him to VBS as he seemed better - acting fine & all that.
About 20 minutes before the end of the program last night they brought him out to me. He was fading fast. This AM his tummy still hurt & he felt very warm. My very old ear thermometer was not working. I knew he felt hot & it still told me his temp was 94.7. Uh, no. The doc's office said his temp was more like 101. No wonder he didn't feel good!
His tonsils are very swollen & his throat was red. The PA we saw didn't want to do the strep test on him - which I was fine with - so we are treating as if he has strep - which I'm also fine with. He's had one dose & some more Tylenol & he's up & playing right now. Let's just pray the other boys don't come down with it.
That's just the start of our July. Next week we start two weeks of swim lessons. The third week we have (I'm so excited!!!) three days of art classes with none other than Barry Stebbing!!!! Amazingly one homeschool mom convinced them to come to the nearby town - only 30 minutes from here!!!! I think I'm looking forward to that more than my boys. I end that week by heading to Boston to attend Women of Faith which I am SO looking forward to.
August looks blessedly quiet & I'm hoping it stays that way. ;-)
Our summer has also been crazy busy! Great pics on the other blog. I've not had much time to visit that blog lately.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to hear that J has strep! That really stinks. :( I hope he is feeling better, and everyone is having a good week.
ReplyDeleteOh dear, sorry about the strep.
ReplyDeleteGlad to read the update at SHS about your pump.
You seem to be tackling the summer heat well! We are not having that problem at the moment!
