FOR TODAY (December 1, 2008)...
Outside my window...
darkness...the end of the day is nearing & I'm just now finding the time to sit down & blog.
I am thinking...
it was a busy day but I did get quite a bit accomplished - not everything on my "to do" list but the vast majority so I'm happy.
I am thankful for...
my mom coming through her heart cath without any issues and no problems found. Praise God! She's been in the hospital since 11/26 as they feared there was a problem. Due to the holiday, today was the first day they could do the cath. She should be going home tomorrow.
From the learning rooms...
focusing on Advent. We are doing "Christmas School" for the first time this year. We are doing a Jesse Tree, and Inductive Bible Study, The Birth of Jesus study from Grapevine Studies (they use stick figures to teach - my boys love this), Hands of a Child "Who is Jesus" lapbook, plus reading Jotham's Journey each evening. In addition to math, AWANA verses, and writing as our basics. We'll see how it goes.
From the kitchen...
I know this will sound very silly, but a big turkey! The sales were so great around Thanksgiving that I bought three of them. I cooked one a few weeks ago (froze the meat & have been enjoying a little at a time). I cooked one today & I'll do the same. We love turkey - which is good! Since we always go away for Thanksgiving we never have leftovers. That won't be a problem this year. I have one more in the freezer so we'll have that later.
I am wearing...
the inevitable winter crocs to keep my toes warm. I'm also wearing a pair of ancient jeans today that are beyond faded, a white turtleneck & because it's getting chilly (I need to go put more wood on the stove) a lined denim shirt.
I am creating...
Christmas cards, Christmas presents, and messes everywhere. ::grin::
I am going...
to try to stick to "the plan" & get some things accomplished this week.
I am reading...
The book of Luke at night. I gave up on my sci-fi series. I decided I had better things to do with my time right now - better books to read - projects to do. In fact, the only thing I've read today is the Sunday paper this morning during breakfast! ::gasp::
I am hoping...
My mom truly is okay. They are concerned with something on one of her ovaries & we'll find out more tomorrow.
I am hearing...
the TV unfortunately. The boys are watching a show. They are so excited we now have DVR.
Around the house...
getting ready for Christmas. Need to start decorating.
One of my favorite things...
the Christmas season. I love this time of year.
A few plans for the rest of the week:
MOPS & Bible study on Wednesday, AWANA on Thursday, and my hubby's office Christmas party on Saturday. Not a whole lot.
Here is picture thought I am sharing...
I had to move a bookcase today for the installation of the new DVR box. Here is the stack of scrapbook albums & books waiting to go back on the bookcase.
Be sure to click HERE to go read more daybooks over at The Simple Woman's Daybook.
I hope your mom is ok. My grandmother went thru that last year, so I know how scary that can be! I'll keep her in my prayers! Hope your week goes as planed. :)
ReplyDeleteI do hope your Mom is okay.
ReplyDeleteAnd we love turkey, too! :) I was thinking I should get another one. Tonight, we had turkey casserole. :)
I am SO GLAD I came over here! We are not doing school as usual over here, but I haven't had much direction. I was just at my friends house on Monday and she mentioned the Jesse Tree and I saw Jotham's Journey in my Timberdoodle and contemplated buying it...do you guys love it? It's hard to "switch gears" in the south, we don't have many "Christmas cues" but you have given me so direction...thank YOU!
ReplyDeleteHi... I enjoyed reading your daybook and will whisper a prayer for your mom right now.
ReplyDeleteWe must be cut from the same cloth...I have two turkeys in my garage freezer and have also decided to spend our Advent doing "Christmas school"... I think I will adopt that term in my own homeschool... we have set aside all but the absolute necessary "school" work until after the New Year so we can focus on the meaning of the season.
Have a great day!
Love the picture with all the scrapbooks!
ReplyDeletePrayers that the Lord will lift up your mom(and family) during this time. ((hugs)).
