My Daybook

FOR TODAY
(
November 16, 2009)...

Outside my window...
it is dark. It's actually past my bedtime. I almost didn't do my daybook entry this week and then decided that I must do one. It shares the "everyday-ness" of my life. I want to be sure to capture that.

I am thinking...
I enjoy quiet evenings, but I pay for it by not getting enough sleep. I'm working on getting to bed earlier.

I am thankful for...
a husband that works so hard to provide so well for us. This will be explained a tad more in the photos below.

From the learning rooms...
we just started back to school today after 10 days off. N8 had his tonsils & adenoids out back on the 4th. Just this past weekend he is finally starting to feel more like normal. Today was a rough restart but we'll get there. We always do. We are still using our version of workboxes and the boys continue to like it - for the most part.

From the kitchen...
whoopie pies! I don't make these often but we made a batch yesterday, B13 & I. SO yummy!

I am wearing...
socks my MIL knitted for me, jeans, long-sleeved white shirt, and new zip-up hoodie cardigan. So comfy & warm.

I am creating...
should I whisper it? Christmas stuff! Oh & if you would like free Christmas photo cards, you simply must go check these two blog entries out (here and here). I just ordered 100 Christmas photo cards for FREE including shipping. I wasn't even planning on doing that but I couldn't pass up the opportunity. The first 50 are already on their way to me!

I am going...
to attempt the "big declutter" while hubby is at deer camp (drum roll please!) our bedroom. I promise not to touch his stuff, but my side of the room is seriously getting horrid! I mean, I can no longer tell me kids to clean their rooms while mine looks like this. I may even snap some accountability photos to post. I have far too much 'stuff' in there & most of it is scrapbooking related. Time to clean it out!

I am reading...
A Mile in My Flip-Flops by Melody Carlson. So good! Too good in fact. I'm having a hard time putting it down. Easy & light & fun. The perfect book for me! I also just started an online Bible study today that goes for three months using the book Stepping Heavenward by Elizabeth Prentiss. This is going to be challenging but VERY good I pray.

I am hoping...
hubby brings home a deer this year!

I am hearing...
the hum of the heating fan blowing the hot air from the shop area (where the wood stove is) in to the rest of the trailer. That's it. Oh & the tapping of the keyboard. Like I said...nice and quiet!

Around the house...
I have a lot of projects I'd like to get down - we'll see. The bathroom ceiling either needs some bleach water put to it or a new coat of paint. Not sure which. All the windows need that lovely shrink plastic applied so we can keep the heat in the trailer this winter. The above mentioned bedroom project. Not sure what else I'll find to do.

One of my favorite things...
whoopie pies! ;-) (This is a northeast thing I think - think Oreo Cakester but less cake-like maybe?)

A few plans for the rest of the week:
AWANA, Bible study, oh and a homeschooling Mom retreat on Saturday! We're going to be listening to Paulie Heath talk and sing. She's wonderful. I'm really looking forward to that. Oh & definitely hubby coming home on Sunday!

Here is picture for thought I am sharing...
Preface...hubby is away at hunting camp. These types of things usually happen when the men are gone right? So I left B13 home with N8 on Sunday. My MIL had J5 with her all weekend in NH. Remember that this is a multi-generational homestead and Great-Grandpa was here as well - although in his own house. I quizzed B13 on safety before I left. I got home to discover that our 15-year-old microwave had finally rebelled.

I'm holding a plastic Tupperware plate. B13 tried to cook a chicken burger (for N8 who gets to eat pretty much anything he wants right now while he's recovering). See that nice black crust on the top?

Now, let me flip that plate over for you so you can see the bottom of it.....

See that black crust? THAT is the bottom of the chicken burger!!! The bottom of the plastic plate completely melted away! Oh my did it smell!!! B13 had put the plate in the sink and ran water on it. Then he opened the door, but a fan in front of it, and ran that to get some of the fumes/smell outside. I guess he handled that emergency rather well on his own. They were forced to eat their most favorite meal instead - PB&J.

RIP Microwave. You served us well for 15 years.
Actually, I am not sad about this at all! I have wanted a new microwave (one with real numbers instead of a 10 minute, 1 minute and 10 second buttons) for at least the last five years. Still learning how the new one works, but I like being able to cook my small bag of microwave popcorn in the recommended 1 minute 30 seconds instead of 3 minutes (which is what it took in the white thing above!).

  2. My in-laws live in Amish country (though they are so not) and they get whoopie pies every year from their Amish neighbors. They are so tasty! I have a recipe, but I've never attempted it. This year we'll be there for Christmas. "I wish I may, I wish I might...have a whoopie pie tonight!"

  3. Wishing your husband good luck with the deer hunt. We eat deer meat quite a bit here. We also have them in our backyard, although we can't shoot these...too close to the neighbors.

  5. Sorry, had to laugh about the "getting a deer" part. Good stuff. ; )

Oh, by the way, this is Mrs. Lindeman.

  6. Glad to hear your son is doing better. We tried to "start back" a couple days ago after being sick for a week. It's always a bumpy road to get back to routines it seems!

I'm glad that your microwave died safely for everyone! Enjoy your new one!

  8. This brings back memories of our TX microwave mishap...with the popcorn. We also ended up with a new microwave....I can imagine the smell.

Oh thank goodness! I'm not here all alone. Thanks for leaving me a comment. It helps that I'm not always talking to myself. Right? Hello?
