Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. My daughter2 is graduating from university this month and plans to teach elementary school. What are three qualities you most want to see evidenced in a teacher?
Ironically enough I homeschool so  I suppose these qualities should be evidenced in myself. Another bit of irony...in my first year of college I had planned to be a K-4 teacher. However, I decided I wasn't flexible enough so changed majors. Now I teach not only K-4 but also high school.

So as to qualities...flexibility is a big one. Creativity and dare I say it....patience. Lots and lots of patience!

2. You can tell a lot about a person by_____________________.
How they treat their family - spouse and children. If they treat them well - those closest to them - they will typically treat others well. Vice versa - if they treat them awful, they most likely will treat you the same.

3. What song makes you think spring?
Wow....I'm not sure I can identify one. I'll probably hear a bunch soon and go, oh yeah, that's it!

4. May 1st is Mother Goose Day...share your favorite nursery rhyme.
Well, I probably should go with....

Ba ba black sheep, have you any wool
Yes sir, yes sir, three bags full!
One for the master, one for the dame,
And one for the little boy who lives down the lane.

5. What makes someone unforgettable?
The memory and how strong it is. There are some things I won't ever forget (the birth of my children for starters) and other things that my family remembers and I do not. Of course, they just blame my faulty memory.

6. Should music and/or art be part of a well rounded education?
Absolutely. I work hard to make sure those are added to our homeschool. Many times I even pay for outside instruction. For the upcoming year, I will be adding in a music and art appreciation programs. We'll be studying artists and composers. We've done this in the past, but I think we'll delve a bit deeper this time and spend some time on each one so that the boys will have a greater appreciation and understanding of each. I'm really hoping to get them to a local art museum soon that has a Degas exhibit. I'm sure I'll enjoy it more than they will, but I still want to expose them to it.

7. What social situations make you flustered or nervous?
Anything with large crowds that I am not prepared for. I really do spend time getting ready for crowds. I'm very much an introvert and it's hard for me to be "on" especially at very short notice.

8. Insert your own random thought here.
We had two new additions to our farm today.

I started my flock this fall by purchasing a ram and six ewes. Now six months later I am to 15 total. FIFTEEN! These twins made an appearance today. I think I've settled on names. The all brown one is an ewe and we'll call her Thyme (as in, it's about Thyme I got another ewe - out of 9 lambs only two were ewes - thanks to a friend for suggesting this). And the white faced (loud!) one is another ram lamb. I'm going to call him Ember. They seem to be doing well and were born outside on a wet, cold, rainy day. They are now all snuggled in the barn with their mama.

Anyone want to buy a ram lamb??? I have a few for sale.

Oh thank goodness! I'm not here all alone. Thanks for leaving me a comment. It helps that I'm not always talking to myself. Right? Hello?
