Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. Americans will celebrate Labor Day this coming weekend. Do you know what we're actually celebrating? (without consulting your friends Google or wikipedia, ahem) What's a project you're currently 'laboring' over?

I'm going to go with no...I have a vague idea that it has something to do with work forces and work hours, but without checking Google or Wikipedia, I honestly have no clue. Sad.

I am currently laboring over lesson plans. Oy vey. Nothing like waiting for the last minute. Every year I say I want to start mid-August so we can be leisure in our days and every year I put it off. We'll hopefully be starting a full blown schedule on or about September 10th. However, we'll also hopefully be moving next month as well so we'll see if that date holds.

2. Labor Day also signals the unofficial end of summer for most of us...what summer food will you miss the most? If you're in the southern hemisphere feel free to substitute winter for summer.

Fresh corn on the cob. Right from the field. Oh yum. And I have not had enough of that to eat this year. I'd better remedy that quick!!!

3. A well known proverb states, 'It's easier to seek forgiveness than ask permission.' Your thoughts?

Amen!

Well, actually it depends on the situation. I typically will ask permission first because I'm very much a rule follower, but I've been known to just go ahead and do something and then ask for forgiveness...especially with my hubby.

4. Food critic, film critic, book critic, art critic....which hat would you most like to wear?

Book critic followed by film critic followed by art critic followed by food critic. Actually, I don't think I'd ever want to be a food critic. I'm not all that into food per se. Don't get me wrong...I love food, but I'm pretty plain in my tastes. A book critic would be the top of my list.

5. When you were a kid, who (besides your parents) was your favorite adult?

My Aunt Diane (my mom's younger sister). From the time I was two years old until I was eight years old, I would spend summers with her. My three older siblings would come too. She was a schoolteacher with one child and would take the four of us for weeks in the summer to give my mom a break. I loved every single minute of our vacations there. I still love going down there and spending time with her.

6. The astronaut, Neil Armstrong, passed away last week. He was regarded as a hero by many generations of people all around the world. Do we still have modern day heroes? What makes someone a hero?

I do think we have modern day heroes. I especially think of those serving in the military, the police, and firefighters. A hero is someone who is scared but yet does what they need to do anyway.

7. I never get tired of __________________.

Talking about homeschooling. Curriculum. Books. I love it all.

It's just the actual doing of it that is hard at times.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

For the last 3-1/2 years I have been a member of the TOS Homeschool Crew or the Schoolhouse Review Crew as it became known this year.  Last Thursday I wrote my last review. I resigned earlier this spring in order to focus more on our homeschool without having to fit in review products. It was certainly a hard decision as I've very much enjoyed being a part of this fantastic group over the last few years, but it was time to let it go.

  4. In a way you've been a book critic, reviewing homeschool materials : ) Good luck with the move and getting school going...I'm sure the combination is challenging.

  5. I wish our culture focused more on the types of heros you listed and less on the "heros" of sports and Hollywood...Good luck with your lesson planning and your move - there are lots of 'teachable moments' that come with moving :)

Oh thank goodness! I'm not here all alone. Thanks for leaving me a comment. It helps that I'm not always talking to myself. Right? Hello?
