Sincerely 'Fro Me To You - School Pics

One of the blogs I have been reading lately is called We are THAT Family. I can't remember how I found it, but I'm pretty sure it was linked from another blog I read. Anyway....

Kristen is having a meme. "The purpose of Sincerely 'Fro Me to You (every Thursday) is to link up a post about something from your past. You can reach back all the way to your childhood and bravely post pictures of your 'fro or post something from last year and tell us about it. I'm not picky. We just want to read about something that will never see the inside of a scrapbook either because it's not worthy or because you can't find your fancy crinkle cut scissors.

I decided to share some of my school pics with everyone. I guess I'm feeling brave today. I also wanted to let Kristen know is she isn't alone in her Ugly Year. Although, I'm pretty sure I had more than one year that would fit that bill.

Here I think I'm still little kid cute. Although, I had VERY short hair all the way until high school & was more than once mistaken for a boy. I still remember the time I was eating out with my Grandpa & he was asked what his "grandson" would have. I think I was about four. Ahhh, the memories!

Kindergarten - circa 1977 -

Don't you just love that rainbow striped shirt? I'm pretty sure I was wearing bell bottoms.

The next one was from second grade. I actually like this photo, but remember I was about 7 in it. What did I know then (or now for that matter).

Then we enter the dreaded middle school years (or junior high but here in Maine we don't have many of those - most are "middle schools" with grades 5-8). I'm not sure what I was thinking in a lot of these photos but I know at the time I thought I was a style trendsetter - or at least a really good follower.

This was fifth or sixth grade. I'm pretty sure it was sixth. I was probably about 12 years old. I had just gotten glasses in fifth grade. This is the one & only photo that I wore them for - thank goodness! Can you see those glasses??? They are HUGE to begin with. I mean, really, you can see my eyebrows behind the glass. Yikes! And they have those really fashionable curved stems. You remember the ones. They look like a sideways question mark. And they were the in item - in glasses anyway. Let's not forget that beautiful ruffled collar shirt - in plaid.

I'm thinking the above one was seventh grade. Not really sure as they aren't marked. After all I was the fourth kid out of five. My mom was tired of marking all those photos! What can I say? I have fine flat hair - not much you can do with it (not much now either!!) and that cowboy style shirt? Yikes!

Now I know this was is from 8th grade (so I was about 13) since mom did write on the back of this one. I'm wearing my styling polo shirt (layered of course!) with the popped collars. So cool it hurts! And I'm trying something new with my hair - the side part. What I'm hoping to conceal is the horrid widow's peak I have in the front of my hair. Thank goodness for bangs!

Now we're in to high school. I think this is 10th grade (ninth or tenth). What can I say. I'm sure I thought I was extremely cool in this color scheme. I mean really, who wouldn't wear a green shirt with pink suspenders on picture day?? Only the really cool ones would feel they could pull this one off (and it wans't me!). And for some reason, the photo people that came 9th & 10th grade years had this white director's chair with a white background and a white rose for all of us to use. A little blinding isn't it?

And the scariest one of all? This is one of my senior photos (obviously). It was taken after a morning of marching practice. At least I have longer hair now but I permed it. I used to perm it a lot. It helped - at least I think it did. Remember the fine hair I had before - baby fine people! Notice that nice big 80's hair I'm styling. And no, I was not drugged out. Maybe tired. I really hate this photo & I can't believe I'm putting it out there for all to see, but there you have it - my school pics.

  3. Those glasses... oh, those glasses. I wore a pair, too. I effectively blocked that from my mind until I saw your photo. I just may have nightmares now.

  4. Double popped collar! You were stylin'. The permed bangs int he last one scare me a bit, I'll be honest.

  8. Wow, thanks for that great trip down memory lane. I had some of the exact same looks in my school photos. Not the suspender one, but definitely others! :-)

Oh thank goodness! I'm not here all alone. Thanks for leaving me a comment. It helps that I'm not always talking to myself. Right? Hello?
