Random Dozen - Olympic Style

Head over to 2nd Cup of Coffee to join in.

Although this begins with a salute to the Olympics, you'll notice about half-way through these questions that I turn the corner and go off on another path as fast as a luge rounding a bend. Hence the name: Random.

1. If you could compete in one Olympic event (not necessarily winter sports) what would it be? Hmmmm...when I was a little girl I loved watching gymnastics and ice-skating (woman's single events). Now that I'm older, I'm not sure. I think it would be neat if I had the talent to compete it something but quite honestly, no clue what I would want to do now.

2. Do remember a specific Olympic moment from the past? Mary Lou Retton winning the gold for the woman's all around in 1984. And now I can't remember the girl's name, but the girl who pushed through the knee injury in gymnastics to take the vault. I remember her pounding down the runway, hitting that vault hard, and then nailing her landing before going to one leg and limping off. Help me out here...who was it again?

3. Have you ever known anyone who competed in the Olympics? Not directly. Seth Wescott's mom was my high school dance teacher for two years. She was also one of my college instructors my first year for Elementary Physical Education.

4. If everyday activities were Olympic-worthy, which activity would you have a gold medal in? I'd medal in diaper changing for sure. And I don't even have any in diapers anymore. I always thought there should be a competition amongst moms where you had to completely strip down your child, clean them up, and then re-diaper and redress them.

5. Do you know anything about your ethnic heritage? I'm pretty generic. Although family legend has it that we were kicked out of Scotland for horse thievery. My paternal great-grandparents supposedly immigrated to Newfoundland, Canada with my paternal grandfather. They then moved to Massachusetts before my parents moved here to Maine. I've never been able to confirm that though. I do have extended family members who have done a lot of genealogy research though. In fact, my second cousin (third cousin?) works for the National Genealogical Society in Boston.

6. Do you enjoy sleeping late? Oh my yes, but "late" is definitely a relative term I think. "Late" for me is always more than I actually sleep. If I am up at 7am, I wish I could have slept until 8am. I always wish for at least an hour more. Or a really good afternoon nap. I rarely get either.

7. Have you ever performed CPR on anyone? Do you know how? (Yes, that's two, I know. Whatevs.) No, I've never had to do it. And yes, I know how. I took a first responder course in college. Although, having said that, the last time I had training was probably 10 years ago.

8. Name one country you'd like to visit and explain why. Europe - anywhere in Europe. Hubby and I went to England in 1999 for 10 days. He had a friend from high school getting married and we were blessed to be able to go over for that. Although, it was a whirlwind time and we only did a tad bit of sight-seeing. At least not as much as I would have liked to. We spent an afternoon only in London. I'd love to go to Scotland and Ireland and Wales and England and France and Spain and....well, I think you see where this is going right?

9. Have you ever fixed up a couple romantically? I don't think so but my best friend set up my hubby & I. I think she did a fine job there. ;-)

10. What is the last book you read? Hear No Evil by Matthew Paul Turner for a blog tour I'll be posting either today or tomorrow. I loved it!

11. Do you enjoy sleeping late? NO, YOU write the question! How's that for random?? What's your favorite way to waste time on the computer? Normally I would say playing on Facebook, but I've given up Facebook for Lent. Today is the first day. You may see way more blog posts than normal. Or I may end up with a much cleaner house. We'll see.

12. What is your favorite meal at your favorite restaurant? Anything I don't normally cook at home. I typically order a steak or fish & chips - well, the American version of fish & chips. I still remember the absolutely delicious ones I had when we were in England. Oh.my.gosh. So good.

  1. I mentioned Mary Lou and Kerri Strug, the other gymnast you referred to, as well.

    LOL @ #4!

#11 -- either Facebook or reading blogs. If there is nothing new on either front, I'll play Word Twist on FB or solitaire on the computer.

Oh thank goodness! I'm not here all alone. Thanks for leaving me a comment. It helps that I'm not always talking to myself. Right? Hello?
