Friday's Fave Five - 7/16

If you'd like to join up, visit Living to Tell the Story.

1. Selling/Trading the old truck and motorcycle. Talk about happy. This had made both my hubby and I very happy. I posted all the details on Wednesday. The short version: the truck and motorcycle are gone after many frustrating months of trying to sell/trade them. In exchange, my hubby now has a 4-wheeler (with no debt!) and we have cash so I can get a Canon digital SLR body (I have lenses). That's been on my wish list for the past few years.

2. Deals and saving money. Two of my favorite things. Today I went over to where my in-laws work. It used to be a school for troubled kids but due to financial issues most of the school has shut down and it's only being run on a limited basis. As a result they were selling a lot of the furniture and things that had accumulated (a lot of the kids lived on campus). I was able to buy a sturdy stool (to use to take photos), a metal 2-draw file cabinet, and a transcribing machine (I used to work as a transcriptionist and now I'm looking to interview grandparents and transcribe that. I did that with my grandfather and his sister some years ago and they have now both passed on. A great keepsake.) as well as a sturdy two-hole punch, a bean bag chair, two sets of curtains, and some children books. All in all a good start to the day.

3. The bread outlet. I was running low on bread so I had to buy it at the local grocery store. The price about did me in. I paid $5 for two loaves. I buy the best I can (i.e. no high fructose corn syrup thank-you-very-much!) but it's still too pricey. There is a great bread outlet store but it's about a 45 minute drive away. However, it was only 10 minutes down the road from the yard sale this morning. I went and bought nine loaves of bread, six packages of honey wheat sandwich thins and three packages of plain sandwich thins. I spent just over $30 and that will last us a couple of months.

4. Thrift stores. I stopped at the thrift store today and bought myself a bunch of new summer tops. I have them drying as I type. I think I had almost a dozen tops plus a pair of jeans and three backpacks for the boys. More on the backpacks next week. Oh, I spent under $20 for all of it.

5. Anniversaries. Tomorrow - on 7/17 - my hubby & I will be celebrating our 17th wedding anniversary. What are we doing? I have no idea but it will involve going somewhere and doing something and our boys will be home with their grandparents. It already sounds like a perfect day to me!

Now say it back to me! I kid you not, July 17th, 1993. How bizarre is that?!?!

  3. Happy Anniversary to both of you! May you have a year full of God's blessings.

I love a great deal so I was smiling as I read this post because it's full of them. Glad for you that you guys were able to sell the truck and motorbike and have that extra cash for the camera body. Sounds like a great exchange to me. :v)

I need to go get some summer tops too. I hope I find as great a deal.

  4. Wow, your week was FULL of deals -- I love it! There's nothing like getting a good deal, I say. And it's even more fun when you share it with someone.

Happy anniversary -- hope you had a great date.

  5. Fantastic. Just a warning ... make sure your lenses work with the new camera. When I went from film to digital, I thought I was told that it would work with my lenses from the film camera. NOT!

  7. Happy Anniversary (late)!

Was it a Freihofer's outlet by any chance? Love those! My DH will only eat their HFCS-free whole grain white. He's a picky bread man. LOL Luckily we're not too far from an outlet.

  8. I have to laugh, I'm just getting to your five now. If I had read this last Friday I would have wished you a Happy Anniversary by now. I hope you had a great day, and week. I talk to children all day too, and when they go home I"m still babbling, lol

Oh thank goodness! I'm not here all alone. Thanks for leaving me a comment. It helps that I'm not always talking to myself. Right? Hello?
