Stuck on Maine

So for today we have this lovely set of magnets.....

Here is the story behind how these came to be...

A few years ago, my sister & I started talking about ways to earn some extra money while doing something we liked. At the time I had a small photography business. A very small photography business.

I had a Canon Rebel SLR and I loved using it. My sister ended up with the exact same camera and we started going out on photo hunts. She would also assist me at weddings. It was great since she had the same camera. Of course, this was in the days of film.

She would reload each camera for me and I would just pop of the external flash and put it on the freshly loaded camera at the time and keep shooting.

We decided to take that love of photography and turn it in to a business. We went through all of our photos and took some more and came up with the ones we liked best. Then we started turning them in to cards, calendars, magnets, and sometimes just prints.

We went around to various craft fairs selling our wares. I booked a few photography shoots this way. I usually had my portfolio and business cards on our table somewhere.

And we realized, we weren't making any money. We would usually make back the cost of our table and then a little bit. We never did manage to cover our other expenses. After about a year we threw in the towel.

The only problem? We had a lot of product made up. About a year ago we split everything between the two of us and shut down "Sister Creations" for good. However, I don't need multiple magnets of the same image.

So a lucky reader today will win one of each magnet shown. I'm pretty sure I took the first photo shown and I know I took the last, but all the ones in the middle were done by my fantastic sister. I hope you like.

How to enter:
  1. Leave a comment telling me what your favorite thing (person? place? other?) -mandatory - is to photograph.
  2. Leave a comment and let me know what kind of camera you have and use.
  3. Leave a second comment to tell me if you are already a follower or become one.

PS: I know the images look a bit dingy, however, they are all just individually wrapped in photography-safe bags. I was too lazy busy to take them out to take the photo. All images are mounted on card stock and then on matte board with a magnet attached to the back.

  1. Lisa,

My favorite thing to photograph is tied between two things: Sunsets and Close-ups on nature. Both are complex and both have endless beauty!

  4. Okay, you already know I love all things Maine! ;0) If I were a professional photographer, I would want to take pictures of lighthouses and the ocean. Of course, my FAVORITE subjects are my daughters. ;0)

  5. My camera is a 7 year old HP something. It's 6 mp. The on/off button is broken, so I have to stick a pencil or nail file or something pointy into it to turn it on and off. It's slow as molasses so I miss half the things I want to take pictures of. Not easy to tell little ones to hold still while I try to get the camera to work. LOL It's my dream to get a new one someday. I've had an interest in photography since high school when I was on the school newspaper and got to take pictures for that.

  9. My camera is red and digital, but I don't know what kind it is. One of my older girls helped me buy it and the children are still trying to teach me how to use it!

  13. I'd say it's a toss up of nature and family shots. Sometimes I think I should take a class to improve the quality of the photos I snap.

  14. We have an older Sony digital camera (bought it about 4 or 5 years ago) that works okay. Hubby is dreaming about a digital SLR, although that's down the road for purchase.

Oh thank goodness! I'm not here all alone. Thanks for leaving me a comment. It helps that I'm not always talking to myself. Right? Hello?
