Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. Summer officially rolls in with the Hodgepodge this week, for those of us in the Northern hemisphere anyway. What song says summer 2012 to you? Of gosh...I can't really say I have one.  I'm just thrilled it's summer! I love the long days full of light. I'm actually a bit sad it was the solstice today. That means we start loosing daylight and I really dislike that!

2. What's your favorite quintessential summer food? Watermelon! LOVE watermelon on hot summer days. In fact, I just picked one up tonight.

3. I've spent a lot of time traipsing up and down the NJ Turnpike in recent weeks. Did you know the rest areas on the turnpike are named after people who lived or worked in NJ? Clara BartonWalt WhitmanJames Fenimore CooperMolly PitcherJoyce KilmerThomas Edison, and Gover Clevland just to name a few. Of those I listed, who would you most like to have known and why? I'd have to go with Thomas Edison. I'd like to introduce him to my "how does it work" kid and watch them talk about inventions.

4. At what age did you move out of your parent's house and what prompted the move? Not counting when I lived on campus for a year...I moved out of the house when I was 20. I moved into a house rented by a friend from high school and three other people. It's actually how my hubby & I met. I never moved back home. Hubby & I got married the following summer.

5. What's more satisfying to you-saving time or saving money? Saving money, but time saving is a very, very close second.

6. Name something you think brings out the good in people. Helping others. Feeling good about yourself. Lots of sleep!

7. This last question comes to you courtesy of Kathy over at Reflections...will you be taking a vacation or a staycation this summer? If so where will you go? If a staycation is on the calendar have you made any special plans to fill the time? We'll be going on vacation. I actually shared our summer plans earlier in the week. We have plans to walk the Freedom Trail and check out more history in the Philadelphia area.

8. Insert your own random thought here. It was very hot here today. I'm thankful we have our AC in. I'm also very thankful for friends of ours. I've had a hard time getting connections for buying hay off of a farm or the field. However, in the last three days I had a friend who made those connections for me. I now have over 100 bales sitting in my barn and I couldn't be happier. In fact, last night on Facebook I posted I had a "barn full of happy" by mistake. I meant to say I had a barn full of hay which made me happy, but really...it's all the same.

Photo: Hay all stacked thanks to my son & 87 year old grandfather who wouldn't take no for an answer. http://instagr.am/p/MGLzzJjXsT/

  1. Wow, that is a lot of hay! Hope the humidity leaves us all soon. My A/C has been non stop all day.

  2. I would love to be a fly on your wall when your son and Thomas Edison discussed inventions :)

  3. The longer daylight is my favorite thing about summer. I don't like to think about it lessening either. Enjoy your trip to Phila...I grew up in the suburbs so know the city well. My sister lives in the city now. It's one of my favorite cities and is very user friendly. Have you been to the Franklin Institute? If your son is a science guy he would love it.

Oh thank goodness! I'm not here all alone. Thanks for leaving me a comment. It helps that I'm not always talking to myself. Right? Hello?
