Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. What news story are you following right now?
I'm following two stories. The first is about the schoolgirls kidnapped in Nigera. The second is the story of the woman in Sudan who is imprisoned because she is Christian. She was pregnant at the time she was placed in jail and her young son was with her in prison. She has since given birth. She has been sentenced to 100 lashes and to be executed unless she renounces her faith.

2. What's the last thing you wanted but didn't get?
I'm having a really hard time figuring out an answer to this. I'm not sure what that says about me. I often delay getting something and there's been times when I've not received something I've wanted, but I just can't think of anything currently.

3. May 28th is National Hamburger Day...when did you last have a hamburger? Other than your own kitchen or BBQ grill, where is your favorite place to go for a hamburger? And for all you non-meat eaters out there...when you're invited to a cookout what is the one side dish you hope is on the menu?
I actually had one today for lunch. Whenever I buy ground beef, I cook all of it up as burgers so they are easy to reheat for quick hot lunches later in the week. I honestly don't eat burgers out all that often so I can't pick a favorite spot.

4. How have your priorities changed over time?
I've become much  less "me" focused and more "family" focused. I tend to look at what's best for my family rather than what I want. I used to think I wanted a career and adopt children as I didn't want to go through labor! This is the teenage me speaking. Then I grew up and realized having a career wasn't all that I thought. I love staying home. When I got married I thought I'd have "all my kids by the time I was 30" so I could have an early empty nest. I had my youngest son when I was 32 and I would absolutely love to welcome more children in to our family.

5. What's a favorite memory with your grandparents?
I spent many, many summers with my maternal grandparents. I think one of my absolute favorite memories is about my Grandfather. He always wore button down shirts with pockets on the chest. He always had "a little green man" in there. He would convince us to look and then grab our finger as we poked around looking for that little man. He loved life and made sure we did too.

6. On a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being fantastic!), how good are you at multitasking? Share an example.
It depends on what things I'm doing. Sometimes I think I'm fantastic and then reality hits and I realize I'm more of a 5 or 6. Currently, I'm typing this blog post, watching and episode of "Call the Midwife" and checking email in between. However, earlier this week I was chatting with a friend while waiting for my middle son to get out of his martial arts class. Then I needed to drop the little one I babysit with his dad, bring my middle son home, get my youngest son for his martial arts class, and return to the dojo. I was halfway home before I realized the little one I watch was still in his car seat! Oops!

7. How would you summarize your highs and lows for the month of May?
May has been a far busier month than I anticipated. Overall it's been good though. I like that it's the start of summer, although, it's been very rainy this year (again). I realized tonight that it's still light out until after 8pm. That's my favorite part of May.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.
While reading blogs tonight I came across a really neat idea that I'm going to try to do for my oldest son's senior year which begins this fall! Yikes!

It's called 180 Days. Essentially it's instructions on how to create a scrapbook showcasing the 180 days of school (actually in Maine we only need to do 175 but 180 sounds better). I love, love this idea. I may even attempt to do this for my other two boys. I see it as a really neat way to add to a school portfolio.

Oh thank goodness! I'm not here all alone. Thanks for leaving me a comment. It helps that I'm not always talking to myself. Right? Hello?
