What would a giveaway of Maine inspired things be without a lighthouse or two? Unfathomable! So today that is just what one lucky winner will receive....lots of Maine lighthouses!
During the short stint with my sister in our little business, we took a lot of lighthouse photos. I managed to find the ones taken above and created the collage. This is the first prize today for a lucky reader. The collage is 11x14. Sorry, I won't be shipping it framed.

The lighthouses featured are (right) West Quoddy Lighthouse (taken by my MIL), (top middle) Doubling Point Lighthouse (taken by me), (bottom middle) Portland Head Light (taken by me), (top right) Rockland Breakwater (taken either by me or my sister - I can't remember now), and (bottom right) Owl's Head Light (taken by me).
I love looking at these photos because 1) I love lighthouses (it's genetic) and 2) there is a story behind every single photo. For instance, Doubling Point Lighthouse is located on a back road in Bath (I think it's Bath). There was a sign that said, "No entrance" or something similar. My sister & I were on a "lighthouse" hunt that day with all four of our boys. She went down the road anyway and we found Doubling Point. No one told us to leave and we were actually allowed down there after all. We could walk right out on it. It's a neat little lighthouse since it's located on a river and not the ocean.
My sister actually has a similar collage that hangs in her house. It has a lot of lighthouses from the trip she took with her family to Florida on vacation. They drove and saw all kinds of neat lighthouses along the way. I love all the collages she makes and have started following suit.
Not only will you win the above collage, you will also win this set of magnets....
The top two photos are also in the collage. The bottom one is Pemaquid Point on a very foggy day. It was taken by my sister.

PS: I am just ordering the collage today so it will be shipped to the winner (with the magnets) once it arrives here.
Lighthouses are one of those things that I totally romanticize about; wouldn't it have been so wonderful to be a light keeper with my family!!! Then reality kicks in and I understand just how miserable such a life would have made me!
ReplyDeleteI feel like a comment hogger! Yes, subscribed.
ReplyDeleteI would love to win these for my Mother. She collects lighthouses. They are a good reminder of how important it is for us to shine our light into the world.

You already know I love lighthouses! I've seen lots in Maine, plus Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, NY, Minnesota, and NJ. Anytime we've traveled since we were first married, we look for lighthouses. ;0) Lighthouse Digest Magazine bought and published my article and photo of Cape Cod Light back in 1999 when I was a freelance writer. Does that qualify me as a lighthouse lover? LOL
ReplyDeleteI follow your lovely blog.
ReplyDeleteI love lighthouses! I have photographed a few in my time...the Old Cape Henry Lighthouse and the Ft. Story Lighthouse (both on Ft. Story in Virginia Beach), and the Hilton Head Lighthouse, too. I would LOVE to photograph the Maine lighthouses someday...Portland Head and Quoddy would definitely be on the list!

ReplyDeleteOoh, love the lighthouses, Lisa! My mom grew up very poor in Seattle, down the street from the Alki Point Lighthouse. It's beach was a haven for her, her sister, and brother, from their father, who was often drunk. I grew up on stories of them collecting bottles for cash from the beach, of their bikes rides, and everything centered around Alki Point. Many years ago, my bil and sil bought me a lovely watercolor of the lighthouse--not knowing how much my mom really connected to it. We've always hung the pic somewhere in our homes, and it's currently in my bathroom. I was recently looking online to add to it, but haven't.
ReplyDeleteAnd on a different note, that lighthouse's neighborhood has been restored and is now a highly desireable place to live. :)
I'm not a follower, technically (not via Google's follower), because I never look at that screen. I appreciate when you post on FB, which gives me the opportunity to drop in on new posts.
ReplyDeleteI love lighthouses and miss living where there are plenty to visit.
