Challenging Myself

Bible in 90 Days promo button

A couple years ago I spotted a Bible over at Crossings Book Club (which they apparently are no longer carrying) that intrigued me. It was called The Bible in  90 Days. I've had a goal for at least that long to read the entire Bible. I've never managed it. I always get hung up in the Old Testament - usually around Leviticus when all those pesky laws and such are being listed. Obviously God had a reason for wanting them included in the Bible & I know that they must pertain to me somehow today - where I am now - but I've never quite figured it out. Hopefully 2010 will be the year that I do.

Last week I came across this blog where we are being challenged to use the Bible I bought so long ago to do just what it says - read the Bible in 90 days. Doable one would think right? After all, I spend hours as it is either playing on the computer, or now on the Wii, or even just reading regular novels. Surely I can find time during my day to read the Bible & complete it by March right? Of course! Or so I pray.

My first task for this challenge was simply to find the Bible! We had been using it for school time since my oldest has apparently misplaced his. Hmmm, must run in the family I guess. I know it's in his room somewhere but I digress. Tonight I found it - while looking for something else entirely - and so here I am officially signing up.

I truly feel that this is something all Christians should do at least once. After all these are the words we are called to live by. This is how God shows us what it is we should do and how to know Him more. I want to thirst for His word. I want to read it all and in 2010 I plan to do just that.

If you'd like to join me, head over to Mom's Toolbox to sign up.

  1. I am very excited for you... and am impressed that you had thought about it years ago. Now here's your chance to REALLY do it! I'll be praying for you and doing my best to encourage you every step of the way!! See ya Jan 1 for the kick-off!!

  2. Lisa, I'd always struggled to make it through the Bible in a year....and did this in 2007 or 2008. It was wonderful. You have to read fast, forced to skim...but you read it so quickly you don't bog down. I did it 2 1/2 times that year. Then I went to a slower pace.....and I"ve been able to maintain the habit that was built during that year. Praying this works well for you.

Oh thank goodness! I'm not here all alone. Thanks for leaving me a comment. It helps that I'm not always talking to myself. Right? Hello?
