My Daybook

FOR TODAY
(December 14, 2009)...

Outside my window...
darkness. It's closing in on midnight here so I'm just squeaking in this post.

I am thinking...
my hubby is awesome.  He surprised me tonight with a small chest freezer. I've been wanting one for ages. He was able to get an extremely good deal on a scratch & dent model from Sears. Thanks to our friend who works there & gave us the heads up on it. Yes, we managed to squeeze it in to the trailer.

I am thankful for...
friends - especially my friend Kerry tonight. She's going to hold my hand to get me started on "couponing" - tomorrow! Can't wait!

From the learning rooms...
really struggling - as I typically do in December. We haven't done a lot, but the downtime has been good. I need to use it to wrap my head around all the new products we'll be reviewing for the TOS Crew. I've received notification of at least five in the last two days! Phew!

From the kitchen...
oh my - so many yummy things! Today alone B13 made brownies & I made a batch of congo bars. Unfortunately, they are for a funeral at church tomorrow. Wednesday I'm heading to MOPS & we are doing a cookie swap so Tuesday afternoon I need to make six dozen cookies. Yikes! The recipe linked is pretty much the one I'm making except the recipe I'm using calls for pecans instead of walnuts. And the "chocolate covered candy" are Rolos.

I am wearing...
homemade socks, winter crocs, my most comfy pair of jeans I have ever owned (recently bought at Fashion Bug), white t-shirt, and my new winter sweatshirt (brown with a gingerbread man on front & hearts that says "warm winter wishes" all appliquéd).

I am creating...
goodies - gearing up for Christmas!

I am going...
to bed soon - I think!

I am reading...
a new series & liking it so far! It's by Michael Philips. The first book is called Mercy & Eagleflight.

I am hoping...
to enjoy this Christmas season. I'm missing my Mom greatly but I want to continue making this a special season for my boys.

I am hearing...
HGTV playing on the TV (love that station), the dishwasher going & the dryer tumbling.

Around the house...
the Christmas tree is up & decorated - yeah! (Post to follow). I started to finish the "winterizing" that needs to happen inside (shrink plastic on windows). I need to go dig out the rest of the boxes that contain my Christmas village & get that up before it's too late. And some lights outside - somewhere - for the boys mostly. We have no neighbors (other than relatives) & no one can see us driving by, but the boys like them.

One of my favorite things...
sleeping in! Although 7am is considered sleeping in around here - unfortunately.

A few plans for the rest of the week:
A busy but fun week is planned. Tomorrow I head south to a friend's house to take family photos for her. She is going to help me get started "couponing" so I'll be making a trip to the grocery store before heading home. Wednesday I'll head back to MOPS. I haven't been all fall except once when I was the speaker. After MOPS I'll be doing worship team practice - so happy about that. I'm now able to go to practice! Wednesday night hubby is gone to a planning board meeting for work so the boys & I will do something special - pizza is on the meal agenda. Thursday a day at home - need to work on baking and making chocolate treats. Thursday night is AWANA. Friday the boys & I are going to a friend's for a play date in the morning. Friday night is Bible study & we're doing a Christmas party. Saturday I'm going to my sister's to spend the day with my two best friends - my sister & Tammy. Phew! Now I'm think I'm ready for bed after typing out all that! I'd better pace myself or I'll be burnt out before Christmas!

Here is picture for thought I am sharing...

My new "scratch & dent" freezer. It's working great!

  1. It's great to get that extra freezer space, isn't it? We could use a newer (even dented on!) as ours is ancient and, I'm sure, not very energy efficient.

Praying for you and your family as you grieve for your mum. It does sound like you are making some good memories for your boys!

  2. Speaking of favorite Christmas songe, have toy ever heard Toby Keith's version of GTIOTM?? Or Alabama's Little Drummer boy? Goosebumps every time!!

Oh thank goodness! I'm not here all alone. Thanks for leaving me a comment. It helps that I'm not always talking to myself. Right? Hello?
