Review: Mathletics

Mathletics

Math is one of those "necessary evil" type things around here. It's certainly not my favorite subject - never has been but thankfully I married an engineer and my boys have half his genes. That's not to say it's their favorite subject either but products like Mathletics certainly  make it more enjoyable for everyone. Mathletics is a web-based subscription math program. Members of the TOS Homeschool Crew were given a free 45-day subscription in order to try it out.

As I mentioned, Mathletics is an online subscription math program. The cost is $59 a year for one child. However, if you know the human calculator's favorite number (oh, it's 9 in case you were wondering), that price will be reduced to $49.95.

Mathletics is all about helping your child gain confidence and skills in math and have fun while doing it. They help you get results. And the favorite part for my boys was that once you log-in you have the option to play live against other students from around the world. There is no communicating between students and it's all done in a safe on-line environment. B13 in particular found this aspect of Mathletics a blast.

The program is self-checking and has built in "teachers" to help explain concepts to your child.

Mathletics also strongly supports homeschooling. You can click HERE to download their homeschooling brochure.

Once you sign up your student, you are also given a parent account. This allows you to see how your child is progressing, set up if they will need to complete certain activities before moving on, and even have e-mail reports of their progress sent to you. Another neat option with the parent account are the free "instant workbooks" which allow you to print out paper activities to help reinforce what your child is learning on-line. As an example this would be helpful if you only have one computer and multiple children and want to work on math together or your child needed more work on a concept.

Mathletics has programs from K-8. By clicking on the "About Mathletics" tab on their website & then clicking on the "Mathletics Curriculum" you will be able to access the scope & sequence of all the levels.

Overall my boys enjoyed this. Since we only had one subscription B13 used this the most although I am planning to get subscriptions for all the boys to continue with it. We'll be using this as a fun way to supplement math and to allow for some educational computer time.

Oh thank goodness! I'm not here all alone. Thanks for leaving me a comment. It helps that I'm not always talking to myself. Right? Hello?
