Review: Andrea Carter and the Trouble with Treasure

Photobucket

Earlier this year I reviewed a book put out by Kregel Publications. I was just given the chance to review another one.

Andrea Carter and the Trouble with Treasure is the fifth book in the series (book six will be out August 2010). I always like to read series starting with book one. That's just me. What I really liked about this book is that there is a letter directly from Andi (or Andrea) as the very first page in the book that gives a very brief summary of what's happened so far in the series. It is enough to give you a feel for the setting and the characters.

I found that the start of the book was a bit slow but it definitely picked up. The book is full of adventures and action. I'm still in the middle of reading this out loud to my boys and they are very unhappy with my "one chapter" only policy. Although, I have read ahead and am almost done with the book.

The book retails for $7.99 and is geared for children ages 8-12.

Summary from the website:
When innocent horseplay temporarily lands Andi and her friends in jail, they decide that a trip into the mountains will leave their troubles far behind. Accompanied by big brother Mitch and armed with a map showing old gold diggings, they canĂt wait to strike it rich. What could be better than two weeks of camping and horseback riding?

But instead of gold they find heaps of trouble -- trouble that leaves Mitch gravely wounded. Andi needs help fast. But who can she trust? And what good is a bag of gold when her beloved brother lies near death in the middle of nowhere?

Author summary:
Susan K. Marlow, like Andi, sometimes finds herself in bizarre situations-usually while trying to help others. Susan is a freelance editor, teacher, and homeschooling mom. In addition to writing her Circle C Adventures series for tweens, she speaks at young author conferences and teaches writing workshops for kids. She and her family make their home in Washington State.

  1. Hi Lisa-Anne,
This is from a grown-up, so I hope it gives you a break from "talking to children all day long."
Thanks for the great review of TWT. I like that you're reading it to boys and that they're not happy about cutting them off. LOL
Thanks for talking about the extra "stuff," too.
You are about as far away from me as a person can get. You're in Maine. I'm in Washington (state). Hope your summer is better (so far) than ours. Clouds and rain, rain, rain . . . most of May and all of June so far. I woke up early and it was sunny, but good thing I woke up early, because it soon clouded over.
OK, I hope this was enough adult conversation to get you through the day.
    Blessings,
    Susan

Oh thank goodness! I'm not here all alone. Thanks for leaving me a comment. It helps that I'm not always talking to myself. Right? Hello?
