Good Morning, God

Deuteronomy 6:6-7 states:
"These commandments that I give you today are
to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children.
Talk about them when you sit at home and when you
walk along the road, when you lie down
and when you get up."

When most people in the homeschooling world think of Apologia, they think science. That is what has made them such a big name for homeschoolers. However, in recent years Apologia has expanded their mission to other fields as well. These include an online academy, a conference specifically for homeschooling moms, as well as a publishing books designed to support the homeschooling parent in their mission to teach their children - just as Deuteronomy 6:6-7 above states.

Good Morning God

This is why I was delighted to receive Good Morning, God ($14) by Davis Carman (and illustrated by Alice Ratterree) in the mail.

This wonderful little book takes us through the life of a small boy as he travels through his week. It begins on Sunday in church and ends the following Sunday - again in church. We follow him as he worships God each day with the help of his parents and also learns what it means to obey his parents as they teach him.

The illustrations are amazing. Each two-page spread included a color illustration as well as a black & white one. There is even a coloring book available ($4) which includes many of the black & white images.

What I loved about this book is its simplicity. It shows how a young child can worship God and rely on Him to get him through his week - mischief filled and all. Included at the front of the book is a "how to use this book" guide that shares how to use the fantastic appendix in the back of the book.

Amazingly enough, this small child's book has an appendix. It's fully of ideas to expand on each day's reading. If used with this appendix, the book can become a small eight day unit study. I know that my youngest, J6, loved doing this with me. It was our special one-on-one time during the school day. It's very easy to do and not everything needs to be covered. It helps facilitate a wonderful discussion with your child about what it means to become a Child of God.

If you'd like to view a sample of the book (which I highly recommend so you can see a sample of the illustrations), please click here. (The link is directly below the title & cost.)

Oh thank goodness! I'm not here all alone. Thanks for leaving me a comment. It helps that I'm not always talking to myself. Right? Hello?
